The Canary Archipelago Seven habited and six non habited islands together compose the Canary Archipelago. Geographically it is located on 29º en 25´ northern and 27º en 38´ westerlength. The island Lanzarote is only 115 kilometres away from the African coast. The highest peak of the Canaries is the Pico del Teide of the island Tenerife, this volcano with its height of 3.718 meters is the highest peak of Spain. The Canary Islands form an autonomous region in Spain and are therefore part of the European Union. The islands Tenerife, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma belong to the province of Tenerife. The islands Gran Canaria, Lanzarote en Fuerteventura belong to the province of Gran Canaria. The Euro is the official currency in the Canaries. |
