La Palma, island of the eternal spring

The geographical situation of La Palma is the cause of the sub-tropical climate. The Cumbre divides the island in two, which results in different flora and fauna. La Palma is often called a mini-continen, because of her special geographical form many micro-climates are present. Every ravine its own climate.

In the coastal area, upto 200 m. the temperature is quiet stable, around 20 degrees, because of this at this height youre always between bananas... The northern part, from Mazo upto Barlovento has the most moderate and cool climate with less sun-hours. In the laurel-wood Los Tilos temperature seldomly comes above 15ºC.

The western part, from Fuencaliente upto Puntagorda, is the driest and has the most sun-hours. The beach of Tazacorte is told to have most sun-hours of whole Europe! From 500 m. upwards temperature can vary more. Above 2.000 m. height snow in winter is a possibility.

By mistake the Canaries are known to be very hot in summer. On La Palma the opposite is true: average temperature os 23º C. and of the ocean water 20º C. The ocean is all around and almost always gives a nice breeze. Very seldom the Calima very hot air and sand of the Sahara. Than temperature can rize upto 35 - 40º C., but it never takes longer than 3 days.

Tanks to all these micro-climates there is always some sun anywhere on the island. A matter of getting around!

For the current climate, watch this site: tiempo and choose left the ´municipio´ Tijarafe. For more information about El Pinar, click here.
